Making Music Happen
Secondary Curriculum
How to Use This Resource
These lesson plans can be used as isolated, one-day lesson plans or as jumping-off points to entire units centered on the themes found in the museum. Each lesson plan includes a teaching guide, links to relevant media, and any accompanying resources, such as student worksheets and lesson slideshows.
Many of these lesson plans can be used “as is” and require no prior knowledge or experience. They would be great to use as a substitute or “one-off” lesson plan to supplement your standard curriculum.
Other lessons provide ideas and extensions involving resources such as instruments, student devices (Chromebooks, iPads, etc.), and other relevant tools. Be sure to consult the “materials needed” section before you use a lesson plan to ensure you have what you need to help students succeed!
Each lesson plan contains ideas for extending concepts, connecting with other areas of the curriculum, and adapting to suit the needs of diverse learners.
Each lesson provides ideas for how the lesson might connect to specific careers in music. This aligns with NAMM’s mission to provide resources and support for careers in the music industry. Learn more about this initiative at careers.namm.org to provide students with important information on careers in music.
